
I’ve been building a backyard bug turret, working name is Bug Sniper, that finds mosquitoes (and friends), aims a gimbal, and hits them with a short blast of water. It’s running on a Jetson with a couple of cameras, night IR, pressure-gated solenoid shots, and a web dashboard I can poke from my phone. The whole thing started as a “what if I automated the patio slap?” joke and somehow turned into a real electromechanical project with more wiring diagrams than I’ll admit.
It’s not a polished product, it’s a living build. Some nights the scout camera freaks out at leaves, the sniper can’t see a tiny bug at range, and I’m deep in YOLO weights and lens FOV when I should be asleep. Other nights the system locks, tracks, and fires like it actually knows what it’s doing, and that feeling is ridiculous in the best way. There’s a lot of hardware, software, and “why is this GPIO pin lying to me?” between those two moods.
